They came from every section of the country, with large numbers coming from New York City, Washington, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and Detroit. Each one possessed a strong personal desire to serve the United States of America at the best of his ability.

Joe Shepherd & Electra Jr.
Returning again is the beautiful, shiny airplane used in movie "Amelia", NC2072. The all metal twin engine 1936 Lockheed 12 Electra Jr. will be on static display on the grounds of the show. It will also be flying as part of our Warbird review prior to the start of the show. This award winning airplane was one of several used in the film "Amelia" starring Hillary Swank and Richard Gere, which told the story of Amelia Earhart and George P. Putnam, her husband and business partner. Joe Shepherd of Fayetteville, GA is owner and pilot of the Electra Jr. Joe purchased the airplane in Texas and faithfully restored it complete with its original interior. This gorgeous airplane has two 450 HP Pratt & Whitney R-985 radial engines, the same as the larger Electra 10 version flown by Earhart in 1937 on that fateful attempt to fly around the world. Because it is smaller than the Electra 10, the Electra 12 Jr. was much faster and could cruise with a top speed of 225 MPH at 5,000 feet. We are very fortunate to have Joe back again.
